It’s been 211 days since our youngest daughter was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid
Leukemia. This type of leukemia is said to be rare in children. We have met and know 4 other children that have this same Leukemia from our area. 3 of them were hospitalized for treatment during Bree’s treatment. We have watched our daughter spike fevers as high as 106, vomit violently repeatedly, cry, fight infections, itch from rashes and dry skin, cry because she wanted to play but physically could not, shake uncontrollably, scream, sit on a toilet bawling, stare out the window, have a central line put directly into her heart, brushed her hair right out of her head, watched her be fitted for a wig, be sedated over 20 times, watch chemo drip into her, begged God to end her suffering, rejoiced when she bounced back, blood pressures dangerously high and then dangerously low, heart rate over 200 beats a minute, stared at monitors all night long, struggling to sleep, struggling to wake up, struggling to breathe, her teeth are stained from all the antibiotics, watched her eyelashes fall out, we were told her meds were affecting her kidney, swiffered up piles of her beautiful blond hair, watched her thrash in bed scared from a nightmares that water had gotten on her broviac line. Watched as she stayed in bed for weeks even brushed her teeth in bed, Listened to her sob because she misses her dog, night sweats, C-diff, lung biopsies, chemotherapy put into her spine and brain through lumbar punctures, spent hundreds of dollars in the gift shop desperate to see her smile, heard her sister ask God to take this from her little sister and give it to her, held each other and sobbed scared, watched her be braver than we ever could be, watched her trust God and ask him to help her, birthday party, fourth of July, entire summer in the hospital, breathing treatments, physical therapy, burning shots in her legs for weeks until she could barely walk, best friends changed from other kids into nursing techs, home became the hospital. Now she is done with treatment. We are so thankful to still have her here on earth with us. We still have a long road of recovery and transitions ahead of us. We am thankful for my friends and family. We are so thankful that God has got this and that no matter what happens this is not our forever home.
